Department Description

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is the second largest department in the School of Medicine and employs over 80 faculty and about 100 Volunteer Clinical Professors. The office of Residency and Student Programs for the Department of Psychiatry provides post-graduate training for 64 residents with 6 Chief Residents and rotations for non-Psych residents, 51 fourth year medical students, and 99 third year medical students. The department provides complex analysis and management in administration, information technology and accreditation for trainees rotating to 4 affiliated hospitals and 29 affiliated sites across 2 ACGME approved residency training programs, 2 joint residency training programs, and 2 ACGME-accredited fellowship, and a post-doctoral training program.

Responsibilities
The Health Professional Education Specialist 2 utilizes vast knowledge of educational information systems, competency and milestone systems, and accreditation and regulatory standards. Serves as an advisor to the training directors of the Combined Family Medicine/Psychiatry Residency Program, Internal Medicine/Psychiatry Residency Program, Clinical Child Psychology Doctoral Internship and the Postdoctoral Clinical Child Psychology Fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry. The Health Professional Education Specialist interacts with institutional and regulatory administrative offices, provides ongoing training, assists in coordinating all program events including orientation, graduation, retreats, educational lunches, and in-training examinations.

Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience with ACGME programs, policies, and procedures.

Demonstrated experience working with students and/or trainees.

Demonstrated administrative experience working with Residency Training Program Directors

LCME/Medical Education Knowledge and Working Experience

Fellowship and/or Residency Recruitment Experience

Demonstrated experience providing administrative support for educational program activities and to supervise the compilation of program and trainee data

Planning, problem solving, and critical thinking skills to anticipate, avert and resolve issues of scheduling and task allocations.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities to establish, interpret, and implement policies and procedures to accomplish program objectives, and ability to communicate same to faculty, staff, and residents

Demonstrated ability to recognize and maintain security of confidential information

Demonstrated ability to promote the range of program activities and resources to students for their use

Demonstrated ability to independently organize tasks and set priorities for work assignments with little or no direction, to meet designated deadlines, to be flexible to work with others to obtain Program objectives and be willing to adjust own schedule to meet the needs of other staff, faculty, and residents on a daily basis
Proven track record as a self-starter, to work independently to secure answers/resolutions to follow through with tasks to completion
